Acetylene is a weird gas. A
large volume of acetylene at
pressures over 15 psi is un-
stable and can explode like
nitro-glycerine. But as you will
soon find out, the pressure in a
full acetylene tank is over 200
psi! The reason the tank doesn't
explode, is because the tank is
first filled with acetone, a
liquid. The acetylene is then
pumped into the acetone. As you
use the gas, it boils out of the
acetone. The acetylene tank must
be upright when used, or the
acetone could flow into the
regulator.~

Regulators are very sensitive to
dust. This step is considered
good practice by some, but un-
necessary by others. You be the
judge. While wearing goggles,
open each tank valve for a
split-second to blow dirt away
from the opening. This will be
loud.
